The Hunt Update

Sam and I developed our concept a little bit more with the new introduction of "Donald J." the safari leader. For the sculptures we created a series of clues that incorporated the various activities on the lawn in subtle ways.

Clues:

1. Up the steps is where I stand, my body is motion motion, I just don’t know where to land. Built geometric but yet I am asymmetric.
What Sculpture am I?

2. The four of us “bust” from the ground, made of different many different elements we don’t make a sound. We are built in layers and located close to the badminton players. What sculptures are we?

3. I am surrounded by seasons and am in deep thought for many reasons.
Who am I?

4. The green is my court and I am part of a sport. Before me are puppets and dogs in a ruckus. I landed close to the music and I leave people asking “can I use it?"
What Sculpture am I?

5. Through the trees I take my seat,
the commotion of the streets surrounds me. Emmanual Cleaver also borders me, what
sculpture could I be?

We believe that these hints are enough for each viewer to catch on to without being confused. We also developed an activity to take place at the art tent that involves using felt because that is a texture we are using heavily. Our activity is making personalized safari hats and headdresses for girls that can be decorated with felt items relating to the Haas sculptures. For our map we decided to get rid of the pop-up idea to simplify (from critique with nelson). We decided instead to incorporate the a textural printing method.

Renditions / Additional research

Some additional research done was at the following websites:

Touch-based App Design for Toddlers

http://www.lukew.com/ff/entry.asp?1179
Best Practices for Designing iPad Apps for kids
Designing Apps for Kids
These websites spoke to what kids even care about and how to keep their attention. For our app we came to terms that we want to have an interactive treasure hunt.

Sam and I are merging the the brand standards of this app for info architecture into the map and collateral in user experience. With research Mike and I decided that choosing key words would help us decide our aesthetic. We drew a lot from the ideas of Sesame Street in merging the worlds of real life and fantasy, in a sense bringing a new life to the sculptures. The merging of the worlds also allows for further engagement and sparks in curiosity. The words we decided to drive our mood board are:
Playful
Playful not only speaks to the adventure and new experiences to be had at the event but also to the fun-filled atmosphere.
Bold
This speaks to the bright and open space this event is held, it also speak to the idea of “the big picnic” an event that holds weight and is to be remembered.
Engaging
Using a more tactile approach stylistically we want our viewers senses to be aware and awakened, we want our user to touch and be engaged in the space in all aspects.
Mood board
The app (info arch)
For the app a simple description is that of an infinite challenge. They player will get 3 lives and will have to continuously catch each sculpture to collect as many points as possible. You lose a life when you catch certain items like a fork or a knife. As time goes on and points rack up the courses get harder with more obstacles.

Sam + Mike

Sam and I honed in on activating the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Hall. After researching and relating to personal experience we came to the conclusion that children are interested in games as well as young adults. In this generation technology is a huge thing so relating the real life sculptures is something that can be taken home and interacted with outside of the museum. The content of our game is the cultures utilizing the idea of a collection just as a museum functions. To activate the education aspect of the sculpture park we are introducing these visuals to the user of the game. Children and young adults would atlas be familiar with the art work as well as the artist.
inspirations
These inspirations were attractive in the sense that they are simplistic but highly engaging. These games contain a sense of competitiveness that is approachable and friendly which is an aspect that we want to bring into our game
Angry Bird

Lilo & Stich Sandwich Maker
Super Mario
research
These articles spoke to designing for children in terms of apps and games which what we will be doing. The second article talks abut the Birth of Big Bird and there merging of fantasy and real life. Mike and I are attempting to do that with the combination of real life sculptures and representing those in 2D space.
